Let’s talk topical treatments

At Pestle & Mortar, we like to keep skincare as simple as possible. And when it comes to treatments, the same applies. Here are a few ways that you can use your daily Pestle & Mortar products to make a topical treatment at home.

Fact: Luminous, glowing skin never goes out of fashion, regardless of the season. But maintaining a radiant complexion throughout the year isn’t always easy. There are times when you just know you need extra, and that’s where topical treatments can help.

WHAT IS A TREATMENT?

A treatment product is defined as something that you use in addition to your daily routine to address specific skin concerns such as dark spots, fine lines, inflammation, dullness, or dry skin.

Topical face treatments should get to work exfoliating and brightening the skin and giving it an overall boost of health. In order for this to happen, you need to seek out active ingredients that can penetrate the dermis and renew the skin at a cellular level.

But you don’t want anything too harsh. There are a lot of face masks and peels on the market that sound too good to be true, promising an instant glow and an end to breakouts. The truth is that many of  these quick-fix treatments  are too harsh, padded with harmful irritants, and will lead to irritation, redness, and skin barrier disrepair.

WHEN DOES YOUR SKIN NEED A TREATMENT?

Only you know your own skin. If you’re in tune with it, you’ll notice when it needs some help. Many people find that in Winter, their skin needs more hydration and help with exfoliation. It may appear bumpy, flaky, or just generally lacklustre. You might notice makeup appearing clumpy or under-eye circles looking more pronounced.

In any case, an at-home treatment is a simple way to boost your routine, and it doesn’t need to be complicated. By slotting a targeted serum or night oil into your daily routine, you can treat your skin to the advanced benefits of powerful ingredients like retinol or vitamin C. Ingredients like these work hard to renew the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, deliver deep hydration, and brighten the complexion.

HOW TO TURN YOUR REGULAR DAILY SKINCARE INTO A TREATMENT

At Pestle & Mortar, we like to keep skincare as simple as possible. And when it comes to treatments, the same applies. Here are a few ways that you can use your daily Pestle & Mortar products to make a topical treatment at home.

To calm and hydrate skin that’s feeling inflamed or tight, try a nourishing Erase Balm mask. Simply slather Erase onto the skin, massage it in, and leave it to soak in for 10 minutes.

Erase contains a host of super-nourishing natural oils like grape seed, pumpkin seed, prickly pear seed, meadowfoam seed and lavender. The skin brightening powers of these natural oils deliver a glowing complexion while an anti-ageing cocktail of essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals will soothe and protect your skin.

If you’ve been experiencing break-outs, oiliness, or flakiness, try this: mix a few drops of Exfoliate glycolic acid toner or NMF lactic acid toner with Renew gel cleanser and massage it into your face, avoiding the eye area. If your skin is more on the sensitive side, choose the NMF option because lactic acid is a sensitive skin hero. This simple acid mask will slough away dead skin cells and leave your skin illuminated, polished, and protected. Leave on for 10  minutes before wiping off using our dampened double-sided face cloth.

In just ten minutes, using products that are already on your skincare shelf, you’ll be good to glow for party season!
